The Shchusev State Scientific Research Museum of Architecture, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, presents the exhibition of the outstanding master of the Art Nouveau era Fyodor Osipovich Shekhtel (1859−1926) «Fyodor Shekhtel. Dreams of Russian Art Nouveau». The general sponsor of the exhibition is VTB Bank.
During the preparation of the exhibition, the curator and the Museum staff were inspired by the long—term scientific work of Lyudmila Vladimirovna Saigina, one of the leading experts on the work of Fyodor Shekhtel, who worked at the Museum of Architecture in 1976−2024. The project is dedicated to all the researchers of the master’s legacy, who began to open it to a wide audience in the 1970s. The first monographic exhibition about Fyodor Shekhtel was held in the halls of the grand suite of the Museum of Architecture in 1984. The concept of the project presented by the Museum today is based not on a biographical narrative about Fyodor Shekhtel, but on an analysis of his works.
Fyodor Osipovich is one of those rare architects whose work not only defined the artistic image of his era, but also continues to shape our understanding of the beauty and expressiveness of architecture. His ability to transform each project into a unique artistic world, combining engineering courage, deep imagery and impeccable sense of form, made him one of the key figures of Russian Art Nouveau.
