A staid music teacher writes rather frivolous operettas, while a young student at a convent boarding school dreams of the theatre… a familiar plot, isn’t it? Vladimir Ivanov’s production offered a new interpretation of the operetta, yet it retained its special charm, elegance, witty joke, delightful vocals, mischievous dance, and the light, ironic style of Vakhtangov’s acting.
For the first time, the operetta «Mademoiselle Nitouche» was staged at our theatre in December 1944 by Ruben Nikolaevich Simonov. The costume designer was Nikolai Akimov, and the text for the interludes was written by Nikolai Erdman. This performance was also staged on May 9, 1945 — and during the intermission, both the audience and the performers went outside together to watch the Victory salute.
For more than 20 years now, the new version of «Mademoiselle Nitouche» has been gracing the billboard of the Vakhtangov Theatre and remains an undeniable hit. Maria Aronova has been consistently performing in the play in the role of the Headmistress of the boarding school for heavenly swallows.
The play is a laureate of the «Theater Star» Award in the «Season’s Top‑Selling Show» category, 2016.
