In the new production of «Otello,» the director deliberately abandoned strictly defined historical or geographical coordinates. According to Giancarlo Del Monaco: «The action of ‘Othello’ is not determined by spatial and temporal coordinates, but by people’s behavior. Jealousy, malice, betrayal, impulsive violence, and belated remorse are not historical phenomena. They are constants of human existence.» Therefore, in our production, we view «Othello» as a work that transcends any particular time, place, or cultural tradition. It becomes a dark exploration of humanity itself."
His regular collaborators worked with Mr. Giancarlo Del Monaco: the Spanish theatre designer Antonio Romero, a master of complex «architectural» spaces, and the costume designer Gabriela Salaverri, who is renowned for her mesmerizing colour solutions. The lighting score for the performance was created by Luis Perdigeiro, one of the leading lighting designers in the world of musical theatre and a multiple award‑winner; Ekaterina Mironova served as the choreographer‑director.
