Mark Zakharov’s production of «The Marriage» was staged to mark the 80th anniversary of the theatre, and since then it has been running at the Lenkom stage with неизменно full houses for almost twenty years. Gogol’s hilariously funny yet sharply satirical comedy became the starting point for the director’s philosophical statement about the character and fate of the Russian person.
The bright ensemble of the performance, which includes real stars of the Lenkom stage, with unfailing courage captivates the viewer in the twists and turns of the story of the indecisive groom Podkolesin, the enterprising matchmaker Kochkarev and the picky bride Agafya Tikhonovna.
The play is included in the «Golden Fund» of the Russian theater and is rightfully considered
one of the brightest productions of Mark Zakharov.
